Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our nursing rating. The nursing grade consists of a handful of subcategories, but the paramount one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a somewhat alarming figure which is well below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. It scored well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also stunned to find that this facility received a solid short-term care rating in our assessment. We gave it a grade of C in this area. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last item we considered in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second worse category is long-term care, where it received just a D in that category. This is a relatively poor grade. For residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an above average figure. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
The final category we looked at is inspections. This ended up being this nursing home's weakest link. We gave it a D in this area. Since this information is compiled by independent government inspectors, we weight it heavily in our grading. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. This facility was assessed 12 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility also received 26 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
