Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Even though we gave this nursing home an abysmal overall score, we awarded it a grade of B- for our nursing category. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we assess the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, nursing scores also consider quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses to assist its residents.
Facility Inspections
Interestingly, this nursing home's awful overall grade can't really be attributed to its government inspection reports. We gave it a C for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. This nursing home was hit with 12 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were category G through L deficiencies. This means this facility avoided the more ominous classes of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.

Short-term Care Quality
We were also stunned to find that this nursing home received a solid short-term care grade in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of C in that area. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final measure we considered in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our next category, we gave this nursing home a D in long-term care. This was the facility's worst category grade. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
