Facility Inspections
It should be noted that this facility's inspection grade outpaced its overall grade. We awarded it a grade of B+ for its inspections grade, which is a very solid score. Our inspection grades are based on many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an B+. There are quite a few subcategories within this area. Many of the subcategories relate to nurse staffing. This particular facility provided 4.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This was one of the better figures we found. In addition, a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of providing high levels of care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents suffering falls leading to major injury, this place performed as well as any nursing home the nation.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received an impressive score in our short-term care category. We gave this facility an above average grade of B in this category. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. This facility offered more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a facility in this category. The final metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 38.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home rather than remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we scored was long-term care. This nursing home was awarded a C for the category. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of providing quality levels of nurse staffing, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This statistic is better than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 4.08 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this figure is somewhat concerning, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes due to the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
