Nurse Quality
Even though we gave this nursing home an abysmal overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our nursing rating. Our nursing rating considers a host of datapoints. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, although this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed well in this area.
Long-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility earned a reasonably solid long-term care rating in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of B- in this area. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility provided the vaccine to 99.80119 percent of its patients, which is an above average percentage. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's next highest score was short-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this area, it still fared relatively poorly. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Based on its abysmal grade in this area, we weren't shocked to discover this nursing home provides significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 2.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
Facility Inspections
Turning our last category of inspections, this facility received a grade that's as bad as it gets. When a place has this poor of an inspection rating, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. This facility was assessed 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they posed a risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.
