Short-term Care Quality
Even though we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a B for our short-term care grade. This is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Without this grade, its profile would have been even worse. In crafting our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 4.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this facility a grade of B- for our nursing rating. In computing our nursing scores, we look at both staffing levels and the skill levels of the nurses. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a low total compared to most nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this facility only earned a grade of D for its long-term care rating, which is not an impressive grade. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
Moving on our last area of inspections, this facility received an F here. Since this information is compiled by government inspectors, we heavily weight negative feedback in this area. For facilities with poor inspection grades, you should scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This particular facility was hit with 8 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they caused a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility also received 35 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
