Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Although this place's overall grade was abysmal, it didn't perform terribly in the area of short-term care. In fact, we awarded it a C for that category, which is a decent score. That said, this wasn't enough to salvage its overall profile. Our short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final item we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home really didn't perform horribly in the category of inspections. We awarded it a grade of C for that category. Other categories turned out to be the source of this facility's abysmal overall grade. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 10 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were category J through L deficiencies. This indicates the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to place patient safety or health in imminent harm or jeopardy. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.

Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. The nursing grade considers a host of datapoints. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home averages just 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, we also assessed several nursing quality measures. Although this place got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it did well in this area. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of moving patients even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we rated is long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category, which is an abysmal score. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the quantity of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
