Facility Inspections
In addition to receiving a great overall rating, this nursing home received an A+ inspection grade. This grade is based on its recent inspection reports. An A+ in this area is one of the highest complements we can offer a facility. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given high marks in the area of short-term care. Consequently, it received one of our most impressive grades in that area with a grade of A+. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Remarkably, this place provides roughly 50% more hours of services from registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 73.1 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Our nursing rating assesses many subcategories, however, the most important consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provided 4.7 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This was one of the better figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of providing impressive levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the nation in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these metrics as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
The fourth area we graded is long-term care, where this nursing home received an A. This wrapped up a very strong report card. Only a select few facilities received an A- or better in each of our categories. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are kept in good health. After assessing the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 98.66667 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. This combination proved to be successful as this facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had just 1.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a much better hospitalization rate than the majority of nursing homes.
