Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with a favorable overall score, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this category usually have very few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to this nursing home's list of achievements, it also was awarded a high-end long-term care score. We gave them a strong grade of A in this area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 95.726494 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a favorable short-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better grades in that area with a grade of B. In computing our short-term care scores, we assess a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is considered to be a meaningful assessment of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next category we assessed is nursing. This facility received an above average nursing rating in our assessment, with a grade of C. Even though this was not as good as some of its other category grades, this remains a respectable score in this category. The nursing score assesses several components, however, the most important consideration is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below the national average. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. While this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared well in this metric. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of turning a patient at least once a day.
