Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A-. Our inspection grades are tied to pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, we also wanted to note that this nursing home received impressive long-term care marks in this assessment. We gave them one of our more favorable scores in that category, with a B+. This proved to be the nursing home's second strongest score. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. Once we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 87.5 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. Nursing ratings are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This facility offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we looked at is short-term care. It received a lowly F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel score. In calculating our short-term care grades, we size up a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is considered to be a reliable assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Based on its poor grade in this category, we were not stunned to find this place provided significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.3 percent of its residents returning home.
