One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also performed well in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Not many nursing homes received a better grade in this area. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most critical for individuals needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires more skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this nursing home provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality
Compounding its first-rate assessment, this nursing home also was given a superb long-term care grade, with a score of A-. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98.95105 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
The next category we rated is nursing. This facility received a better than average nursing score this year, with a B-. Although this was not as strong as several of its other grades, this is still a respectable rating for this area. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, while this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of our quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this statistic.
