One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Adding to its strong assessments in other areas, we awarded this facility a score of A- for our long-term care rating. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.041534 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a life or death ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. This place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had just 1.52 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility received a top-shelf grade of A- in our short-term care area. In our short-term care assessment, we try to craft a valuable gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. It outperformed the majority of nursing homes in this area with 52.6 percent of its patients returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.

In the final category we analyzed, this facility received an impressive grade grade of B+ in our nursing category. With this score, the facility finished off a very strong report card. We looked at the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses spent with patients, in calculating our score in this area. This facility provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
