Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a strong nursing home is that it earned an impressive inspection rating. Inspections is its best category grade. In this category, we awarded this facility an A. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This place was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to resident safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility was given an impressive long-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that category with a score of B+. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.45946 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a life or death illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also gave this facility a respectable grade in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. In calculating these short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 5.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The final category we graded is nursing. For this category, we gave this facility a grade of C. Nursing grades are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, while this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this metric.
