Long-term Care Quality
On top of receiving a strong overall grade, this facility also received an elite long-term care rating. We awarded them one of our higher grades in that area, with a grade of A+. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the datapoints we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 95.32967 percent of its residents. This is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the senior population. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 2.37 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also performed well in our inspection category, which is based on its inspections. We gave it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. Our nursing score is largely associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the higher totals we found. Finally, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place was above average in several of these datapoints, with good scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These metrics are generally accurate indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home offers.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated was short-term care, is this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a D in that category. This was one of just a few weak links of an otherwise impressive profile. Our short-term care ratings are meaningful for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. It appears that this place was subpar in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the data we assessed. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 38.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
