Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Our inspection scores are tied to many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple relatively minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category grades was in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. It actually fared better than most facilities in this area. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 95.30026 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize negative health outcomes for the aged 65 and up population. The last statistic we assessed was its hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had 3.07 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as favorable as some of its other scores in this category, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes based on the medical complexity of patients.
Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. Our nursing score focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. This place performed admirably in this statistic.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we analyzed was short-term care, which is this nursing home's worst category. We gave this facility a D in this category. Naturally, this score pulled down the nursing home's overall grade a bit. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, we discovered that this nursing home offered less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents who returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 37.1 percent of its patients returning home.
