Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection grade. Its inspection score was far superior to its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had a generally positive view of this nursing home's recent inspections.
Short-term Care Quality
This facilities second most favorable category is short-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is essentially a slightly below average score in this category. Our short-term care scores are thought to be more important for folks needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates more skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The final metric we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a middle of the pack grade in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Long-term care scores are meaningful for individuals needing non-healthcare services such as personal care. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. This nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The final category we rated is nursing. We gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is a rock bottom grade. This is obviously a major concern. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This facility offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is not a very impressive figure. This place also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based measures to pair with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than twice the national average in this metric.
