To pair with its decent overall score, we awarded this nursing home an A+ for its inspection grade. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall rating. Inspection ratings are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

This nursing home was given its second most favorable category grade in the area of short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of B- in this category, which is an acceptable score. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

The next category we assessed is long-term care, where this facility was given a C in this category. For residents in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

The next area we assessed is nursing, which ended up being this nursing home's worst area. It received an F for this area, which is obviously very concerning. Our nursing score focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. On top of receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic pulled down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
