Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

One reason this facility fared so well overall is that it excelled in the category of short-term care, with a B+ in that category. With our short-term care grade, we endeavor to create a valuable gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze the facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing rating. In fact, we gave it an B+ in that area. Our nursing score is largely based on the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning residents more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also above average in the area of long-term care, where it was given a score of B. It performed better than most facilities in this category. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After we finished assessing the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Lastly, we found that this nursing home has earned favorable government inspections in recent years. In fact, we awarded it a B in this area. Inspection grades are tied to many data points found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
