Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best grades in that area with an A. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. A deficiency-free inspection report is definitely the goal.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also received a positive score in our short-term care category. We awarded this facility a better than average grade of B in that category. Our short-term care grades are important for individuals requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

The nursing score consists of quite a few subcategories, but the primary one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This figure is far below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care offered.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our last area, this facility received a C in long-term care, which we consider to be an acceptable rating. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 98.34025 percent of its patients against pneumonia. This nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
