Nurse Quality
While we didn't give this nursing home a good overall score, we actually gave it a very strong grade in nursing, where it received a grade of B+. This is better than most nursing homes in this area. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Facility Inspections
Another strength for this nursing home is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its short-term care rating, which is not one of our better scores. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. It looks like this facility was subpar in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the staffing figures we considered. The last item we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 31.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was long-term care, in which this facility was given a rock bottom grade in this area as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously a major concern. Long-term care grades in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. After considering the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated only 89.65517 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.7 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
