Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection scores are tied to many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To complement its impressive assessments in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a score of A for its long-term care score. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. Once we assessed the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 98.039215 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is often a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also performed well in the area of short-term care, where it received a score of A-. Not many nursing homes performed better in this category. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Switching gears to the next category, this facility was awarded an extremely favorable nursing score. We gave it an A- in that area, giving this facility straight A's. In determining our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
