Long-term Care Quality
Although we graded this nursing home extremely poorly overall, it earned a better long-term care rating this year. We gave it a B- in that area. Our long-term care grade focuses on a facility's assistance with daily living rather than the highly skilled nursing or medical services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated only 84.61539 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to point out that this facility was given an F for its short-term care grade. In determining these short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.1 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below average.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. When calculating a facility's nursing rating, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are with patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This facility averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Facility Inspections
Turning our last area of inspections, this nursing home received an F in this area. Since this information is collected by government inspectors, we heavily weight poor results in this area. For places with poor inspection scores, you should really scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This facility was assessed one category J or K deficiency, which are among the worst deficiencies. This generally means that the government inspectors uncovered a deficiency which places resident health or safety in imminent danger. On top of having severe deficiencies, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.
