Long-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it earned a very impressive long-term care rating. In fact, this turned out to be its best category. In that area, we awarded this facility a B+. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 91.16719 percent of its patients. This is somewhat less than we anticipated but still a respectable percentage. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Our nursing rating is largely associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections
This facility also received favorable inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better grades in that category, with a B. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category usually have very few severe deficiencies. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed was short-term care. We awarded it a B- in this area. This is a decent grade in this category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below the national average.
