While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a very impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best scores in that area with an A-. Inspection ratings are tied to pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Moving on to the category of long-term care, this facility was awarded a grade of just D in that category. Sadly, this proved to be its second best grade. Facilities that don't score well in this category often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 92.92453 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is a bit below what we expected but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.3 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Our third area we assessed was short-term care, in which this facility received an F. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to offer high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 19.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

The final area we analyzed is nursing, where this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel score here also. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Our nursing score is primarily associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This place averaged just 2.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This statistic is significantly below average. On top of rating below average in nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also had poor scores in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in both of these statistics. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
