One of the reasons this place turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, this turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our next area, we awarded this facility a score of A for its long-term care score. This is a first-rate grade. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care scores. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. It does not appear that this nursing home provided information on its vaccination levels. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
In the final area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A+ for its short-term care rating. This topped off an elite profile. With our short-term care rating, we endeavor to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home rather than remaining at the facility permanently.
