In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we have deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Another reason we graded this facility so highly is that it was awarded an A+ long-term care score. This is just about as dominant as it gets in this area. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of patient-friendly nursing hour statistics, this facility's vaccination statistics is as good as it gets also. In fact, this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.82 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this place is just about middle of the pack in this area.

This facility also excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A. Only a select group of nursing homes received a better grade in this category. In computing our short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is an excellent sign. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the nation in this area with 56 percent of its patients returning home.

In our last category, this facility also was given a first-rate nursing grade, with a grade of A. This wrapped up an elusive straight A profile. In determining our nursing scores, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This place provided 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is among the more impressive figures in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by these figures. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place outpaced the national average.
