Nurse Quality

Grade: C

While we graded this facility very poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing score this year. We gave it a C in that area. Our nursing category includes a handful of components, most of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did well in this statistic. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning residents more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We were also stunned to discover that this nursing home received a decent short-term care score this year. We awarded it a grade of C in that area. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. We found that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The last item we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 5.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

This nursing home received a grade of just D in the area of inspections. One of the most significant factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We would scrutinize the severity of the deficiencies. This particular nursing home was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, we also would like to point out that this facility was assessed significant government fines recently amounting to over $100,000. This often signifies that a nursing home's poor track record has been an issue for more than one year.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we looked at was long-term care. We gave it an F in this category, which is an abysmal grade. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 34.848488 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
