Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important category. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing scores are primarily associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving patients more often.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our higher scores in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be most important for patients in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility provided more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the typical nursing home. This is certainly an excellent sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This place performed respectably in this area with 46.6 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the fourth category, this facility was awarded a very strong long-term care grade. While this isn't nearly as dominant as some of its other scores, this is nevertheless one of the more impressive scores a facility can receive. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 99.41521 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. The last statistic we assessed is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 1.97 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is close to average in this area.
