Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. When determining our nursing ratings, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this statistic. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning a patient at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility earned a reasonably solid short-term care grade this year. We gave it a C in this category. In determining our short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its level of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. The question is whether this adversely impacted quality of care. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 3.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Surprisingly, we gave this facility a C for its long-term care score, which is not too bad of a score. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated a relatively low 86.018234 percent of its patients. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
The final category we assessed was inspections. This nursing home did not receive favorable government inspection reports in recent years. As a result, we had to give it an F here. For facilities that received this poor of an inspection score, we recommend scrutinizing any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This facility was assessed one category G through L deficiency, which are among the more severe deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies uncovered by inspectors had potential to pose actual harm to residents. Another area of concern is that CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
