Facility Inspections
Although we didn't rate this facility favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it received an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Nurse Quality
We also ended up giving this facility a fairly respectable grade in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of C. There are quite a few datapoints included in this grade. Many of the criteria relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, our nursing scores also consider quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this place actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's third most favorable category was short-term care. We awarded it a grade of C in this area. This is essentially a middle of the pack grade in this category. Our short-term care grades are vital for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The last metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that it was above average in this area with 49.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed is long-term care. It received an F for this category, which is a very poor grade. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 94.35028 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place also was not as bad as we expected at keeping its patients out of the hospital. While it had 2.46 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic wasn't bad due to it having more complex patients.
