Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection scores weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. We weren't able to track down information about this nursing home's deficiencies. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
An additional strong feature for this nursing home is that it was awarded an impressive long-term care score. Indeed, this ended up being its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B+. For patients looking for a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 88.66856 percent of its patients, which is a bit less than we expected. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
The third category we graded is short-term care. This nursing home was awarded a favorable short-term care grade, with a B in the category. Our short-term care scores are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 4.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The final category we rated was this nursing home's worst area. However, even in its weakest link we still awarded it an acceptable grade of B- for our nursing category. When determining a facility's nursing grade, we assess the number of hours nurses spend with patients as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.
