In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Inspection scores are tied to many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Contributing to this facility's list of achievements, it also was awarded a first-rate long-term care score. We awarded them a dominant strong of A- in this area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are well cared for. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 66.775246 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat below what we expected but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. While this wasn't quite as good as some of its other category grades, this isn't a bad score either. When calculating our nursing grades, we assess both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provides 3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. It performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

The next area we looked at was short-term care, which is this facility's weakest area. We awarded this nursing home a D in this area. Unfortunately, this score pulled down the facility's overall profile to some degree. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics doomed this facility's short-term care grade.
