On top of receiving an elite overall score, this nursing home earned an A+ inspection grade. This is based on its recent inspection reports. An A+ in this category is one of the best complements we can pay to a facility. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

This facility also was awarded a dominant short-term care grade. This actually turned out to be this nursing home's second most impressive category score. In that category, this facility received a grade of A. With our short-term care assessment, we seek to forge a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities with 62 percent of its residents returning home.

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. Nursing grades are based in large part on nurse staffing levels. This facility provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The final area we looked at was long-term care. This facility received a favorable nursing score this year, with a B. Even though this is not as strong as some of its other category grades, this is nevertheless one of our stronger grades in that area. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 94.28571 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a life threatening condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. The last statistic we looked at was the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 3.35 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as impressive as some of its other scores in this category, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes based on the medical complexity of patients.
