Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down information about this nursing home's deficiencies. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this facility's other achievements is its dominant long-term care score. We awarded them one of our better scores in that category, with a score of A. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, this nursing home also was awarded favorable short-term care scores in our assessment. In fact, we gave them one of our better scores in that category, with a score of B+. Our short-term care grades are critical for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. It does not appear that this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The next category we looked at was nursing, proved to be this facility's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in this category. This was one of just a few weak points in a very solid report card. Our nursing score weighs several factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This number is well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
