One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received a strong short-term care grade. In fact, this proved to be its best category. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of A. Our short-term care scores are thought to be most critical for people requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing services. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. Facilities with better grades in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Adding to its fine resume, this nursing home also was awarded a superb long-term care score, with a score of A-. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 91.34948 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be slightly less than we expected but still a decent percentage. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Switching gears to our next area, this facility also performed admirably in the nursing category. We awarded it an A- in that category. This wrapped up truly elite report card. The nursing category analyzes several components, most of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
