Nurse Quality

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. When calculating a facility's nursing score, we consider the amount of time nurses spend with residents as well as the skill levels of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to note the fact that this nursing home received a superb score of A in our short-term care category. Short-term care grades are generally used to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this nursing home also was given favorable long-term care grades this year. Indeed, we gave it one of our stronger grades in that category, with a score of B+. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.53704 percent of its patients. This is a proven method to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Moving on to our inspection category, it appears this facility has earned quality government inspections in recent years as well. We gave it a grade of B in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
