Short-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of short-term care. In crafting these short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. This nursing home is the gold standard in terms of skilled nursing staffing. In fact, it offered roughly one and a half times as many registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical nursing home. This is what we look for when grading a facility in this category. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Colorado in this area with 72 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility has also received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our third area, this nursing home was given a top-shelf long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a score of A in this category. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. While we determined this nursing home had an above average amount of nursing hours provided by nurses and other nursing staff, we found its vaccine statistics to be a bit slightly lower than we anticipated. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 87.64045 percent of its residents. This is a statistic we would really like to see this facility improve. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
In the last category, this facility also was awarded an excellent nursing score, with an A. This rounded out a first-rate profile. There are many factors included in this category. Many of the factors reflect staffing levels. This place provided 4.6 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is among the better figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by these statistics. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the number of its patients suffering falls which lead to major injury, this facility performed better than the national average.
