Nurse Quality
One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In this area, we awarded this facility an A. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This place provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Roughly one quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are among the most skilled levels of nurses. These are both impressive figures, which typically corresponds with quality care. Finally, this facility also excelled in several quality-based metrics we assessed. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is often a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by offering better nursing care and a system of turning residents more often.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category scores, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
The third category we analyzed was long-term care. Adding to its first-rate profile, this facility also excelled in that area. In fact, we awarded it a grade of of A- in the area. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. Although we determined this nursing home has a favorable amount of nursing hours provided by nurses and other nursing staff, we found its vaccination rate to be somewhat slightly lower than we anticipated. It provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 55.494503 percent of its patients. This is one statistic we'd love to see this facility bring up. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we scored was short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B. Even though this ended up being its poorest category rating, this is still a favorable score. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be more meaningful for individuals needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The final item we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 21.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
