Nurse Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. The nursing rating assesses several factors, however, the paramount one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provides an incredible 5 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering impressive levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any facility in the country in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this facility was given quality marks in the category of short-term care. For this reason, it received one of our most impressive scores in that area with a score of A+. In computing our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. This nursing home is substantially above average in terms of its quantity of both physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients. In fact, it offered about one and a half times as much care per patient from both of these care providers than the typical nursing home provided. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 76.6 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
An additional strength for this nursing home was long-term care, where it was awarded an A+ rating. This is just about as good as it gets in this area. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of offering very impressive levels of nurse staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also received a nearly flawless inspection report. It earned one of our best grades in that category with a score of A+. This wrapped up a perfect report card of straight A+'s. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
