Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we gave this facility an A+ for our long-term care grade. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also performed well in our inspection category, which is based on the facility's recent inspections. In fact, we gave it an B+ for that area, which is one of our best grades. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility was awarded its next highest category score in the area of short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of C in this area, which is a reasonably acceptable grade. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. It doesn't appear that this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The last area we graded was nursing, is this facility's least impressive category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that category. This was one of the few weak links on an otherwise impressive report card. When computing our nursing scores, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. While this nursing home's nursing hours are below average, it actually surprised us in a few of the qualitative statistics in this category. In particular, we were pleased to see that its residents appear to be sustaining fewer pressure ulcers than the national average.
