Even though we gave this nursing home a weak overall score, we gave it a B for our nursing rating. When calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses spend with patients and the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

This facility performed well in inspections also. In fact, we gave it a grade of B- for that category, which is a solid grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Turning to the area of short-term care, this facility was given a grade of just D in that area. Short-term care grades are typically used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to have highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Based on its poor rating in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this place provides substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

The next category we assessed is long-term care, where this nursing home was given an abysmal grade in this area as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is definitely a major disappointment. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were disappointed to learn that this facility vaccinated only 80.208336 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 1.47 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
