Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection scores are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded a dominant short-term care grade. This actually ended up being its second most impressive category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a score of A-. Short-term care grades are typically employed to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality
Building on its strong assessment, this facility also was given a superb long-term care grade, with a grade of A-. For residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 92.85715 percent of its patients. This is a bit below what we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The next area we graded is nursing. We awarded this nursing home one of our more favorable grades in that area, with a grade of B. Although this wasn't as high as a few of this nursing home's other scores, it is nevertheless a perfectly acceptable grade. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses commit to patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This place was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
