To pair with its strong overall score, we gave this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility fared well in the category of long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a score of A for that category, which is one of our most impressive scores. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Turning to the area of nursing care, this was not one of this facility's strong suits. We awarded it a grade of D in this category. Clearly, this facility performed much better in the categories discussed above. Our nursing score includes quite a few subcategories, but the primary one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility offered only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these datapoints to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

The final category we assessed is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is a very poor score. We would not necessarily rule out a facility as a result of a single poor category though. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. It appears that this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the measures we considered. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4 percent of its residents returning home.
