On top of being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. The nursing score includes quite a few subcategories, many of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This place provides an incredible 6.6 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Out of that total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering high levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in Minnesota when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Adding to its high-end profile, this nursing home also received a superb short-term care score, with a score of A. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it provided significantly more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility permanently.

Turning to our inspection category, this facility excelled in that category, which is based on the nursing home's recent inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily something to panic about.

Historical

Switching gears to our fourth category, this nursing home was given a highly favorable long-term care grade. Although this wasn't quite as elite as some of its other grades, this is still one of the more favorable scores a facility can receive. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to offering very impressive levels of nursing care, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
