In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Nursing ratings are largely associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

The next area we analyzed was short-term care. Adding to its dominant resume, this nursing home also performed well in this category. In fact, we awarded it a of A in the category. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation In order to offer high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Finally, this facility also earned a virtually flawless government inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. With this impressive grade, this place is one of the few facilities in Minnesota to receive straight A's. Inspection grades are based on several data points found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
