Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this place's overall performance, it actually received an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a B+. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Our nursing grade assesses several datapoints, most of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This place provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these datapoints to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's next highest score was long-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still fared relatively poorly. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 86.473434 percent of its patients. This is many points lower than what we were hoping for. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our final category, this nursing home did not fare very well here either. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as terrible as it gets. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most critical for those needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With its grade in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
