Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of receiving a great overall score, this facility performed even better in our inspections category which is based on the nursing home's recent inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category, which is one of our highest grades. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Contributing to its profile, this nursing home also received a grade of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is an above average score in this area. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also above average in the area of short-term care, where it was awarded a grade of B+. It performed better than most facilities in this area. In calculating our short-term care scores, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is frequently a useful assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

The last category we looked at was nursing, where this facility was given a grade of B+. This topped off a very strong profile. Only a select few nursing homes earned a B+ or higher in all four categories. When computing our nursing grades, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning patients more frequently.
