Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the many reasons this proved to be a great facility is that it earned a very impressive long-term care grade. In fact, this ended up being its best grade. In that category, we gave this facility an A. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. After assessing the significant amount of nursing care provided by this facility, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.18033 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.27 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a significantly better hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive category scores, this facility excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our inspection grades are based on many datapoints located in the a nursing home's inspections. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Our nursing grade looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 4.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the highest totals we found. Lastly, this place also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly turning residents to avoid bed sores.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final area we assessed was short-term care, in which this facility was given a B. Believe it or not, this was this nursing home's least impressive category. A facility could be doing a lot worse when it's worst grade still outperforms most other facilities. Short-term care grades are often employed to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
