Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this ended up being a quality facility is that it received a very impressive inspection rating. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In that area, we awarded this facility an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A few relatively minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it was given an impressive long-term care grade. Indeed, this proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the statistics we considered after this nursing home's impressive nursing hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 97.239265 percent of its patients. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the elderly. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.08 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this figure can be skewed for some nursing homes based on some of the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. While this wasn't quite as good as some of its other category grades, this isn't a bad score either. When calculating our nursing scores, we factor in both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided 4.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an impressive figure. Lastly, our nursing ratings also factor in quality measures, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed admirably in this metric.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the last category, this facility received a grade of B- for short-term care, which we consider to be a decent rating. Our short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared well in this area with 56.4 percent of its patients returning home.
