Facility Inspections
While we did not rate this place favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively solid health inspections in recent years. We gave it a respectable grade of B in this area, which was much better than its overall grade. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next best category is long-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this area. This is essentially a middle of the road score in this category. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the area of short-term care, this facility was given just a D in that category. In the area of short-term care, we seek to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. With its weak rating in this category, we were not stunned to discover that this facility provides far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The last category we assessed is nursing, which was a weak spot for this nursing home. We awarded this facility a grade of just D in the area of nursing. The nursing grade consists of quite a few components, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
