This grade is generally a reliable measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final measure we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Maryland in this area with 63.2 percent of its patients returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This place offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 4.6 hours per resident daily. This is more nursing care than nearly any other nursing home offers. Finally, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, it performed as well as any facility Maryland when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B+. This completed a first-rate profile. Not many facilities earned a B+ or better in each of our categories. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the data points we considered on top of this facility's quality nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.40476 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for seniors. This combination proved to be successful as this facility keeps its residents out of the hospital.
