Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being an elite nursing home overall, this nursing home excelled in our inspections category, where it received a grade of A+. Few facilities performed this well in this category. Inspection scores are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility an A. Our nursing rating features a number of factors. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Kansas in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of turning residents more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our more positive grades in our long-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. When nursing homes receive this type of score in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a life or death condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't take any chances. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category, this facility also received a first-rate short-term care score, with a grade of B+. This finished off a very favorable profile. In the category of short-term care, we try to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
