Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Few facilities performed better in this category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had a generally positive view of this nursing home's recent inspections.
Short-term Care Quality
One of this facility's better category scores was in the area of short-term care. This ended up being its second most respectable category. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we assess a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is more often than not a fair measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality
Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing score. We gave this nursing home an impressive grade of D. When computing a nursing home's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses are with residents as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. With only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the final area, this nursing home didn't perform well. Due to a poor grade of F in long-term care, this was this facility's poorest area. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We discovered that this facility provided the vaccine to a relatively low 84 percent of its patients, which is slightly concerning. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
